Aloha Tripeaks – The next installment of the Aloha game series (Remember the card matching Mahjong game, Aloha Solitaire?) is Aloha Tripeaks, where players take a balloon ride over the Hawaiian Islands and play 70 levels of solitaire card games. The game is based on the classic “Pyramid Golf” solitaire game, where gamers build on the tableau’s stock pile with cards that are one value higher or lower to the face up card, either ascending or descending. To win the level, eliminate all cards on the tableau, moving them to the stock pile. The cool difference here is when you’re stuck and there are no more moves, your handy bonuses can save you! Sparkle – Sparkle is one my favorite and most addictive Luxor-like games where you exert your aiming skills to free the Crowberry Woods from the shadow of Darkness. Use your Orb Slinger to shoot colorful spheres into groups of three or more of the same color, which clears the chain of orbs from the board – and in doing so, reclaim every corner of the verdant forest. Pick up amazing amulets and sparkling power-ups hidden along the shaded path. Download it

Thomas and the Magical Words – Combining Scrabble with arcade gaming and a little Harry Potter thrown in, Thomas and the Magical Words will keep word gamers, kids and adults alike, entertained for hours. Tommy has been thrown in a book of spells by his uncle and it’s up to you to help him escape his imprisonment by creating a word path to exit the book. Download it

Treasure Seekers The Enchanted Canvases – Treasure Seekers The Enchanted Canvases takes you to a Romanian castle where Nelly’s brother, Tom, was last seen trying to find the Philosopher’s Stone, a relic with mystical powers. She soon realizes the only way to find him is to step inside each painting hanging on the wall and interact with the characters on these magical canvases, who will then reveal clues that will bring her closer to finding Tom. Fun Friday of Five Mac Games

Virtual Villagers 4 The Tree of Life – The highly anticipated 4th edition of Virtual Villagers is finally here, and we’re incredibly happy about it! If you’re familiar with the Virtual Villagers real-time sim game series, you’ll see that there are many new features in Virtual Villagers 4, not just the same story and game play shuffled around. The story takes place on the eastern shore of Isola and centers on a dying Banyan tree. First, select a tribe – for example, a group of children or nursing mothers or a variety of tribes people with a mix of skills (which determines your difficulty level), each group having its own set of strengths and weaknesses. Work on your tribe and get it to thrive and populate the island, find collectibles and uncover fantastic mysteries – then you can pursue the many hidden puzzles scattered around the island, and as you solve them the tree will begin to heal. If your tribe succeeds, and the Tree of Life regains its original power, you will then find out the secrets of the magical island of Isola. Remember that this Mac game is in real time, so your tribe will age and events still take place even when your Mac is turned off! Hostile Makeover – Based on the funny “Crime of Fashion” mystery by Ellen Byerrum called Hostile Makeover, this hidden objects fashion murder mystery Mac game follows the same story of the murder of supermodel Amanda Manville. Street-smart D.C. fashion reporter Lacey Smithsonian is on the case and her investigative talents, in addition to her razor sharp wit and uncanny ability to wear matching pumps, come into play as she must interview nine quirky characters who appear as suspects. Youda Fairy – Fairies and pixies are popular themes in Mac games especially among children gamers, so these fans of magical tinkerbells will be tickled to have another game with their favorite characters. With Youda Fairy, there’s a wise wizard who has acted as protector of the magical kingdom but he’s been doing that for 1000 years. It’s time for him to retire! He’s looking for someone like you to replace him and be responsible for watching over the realm. You’ll cast various spells and create fairies, which will help the kingdom stay safe and sound, and out of the hideous and destructive grasps of the evil witch. The game play will remind some gamers of The Great Tree meets a sort of Megaplex Madness. Download it

Sudoku Epic

Puzzle gamers might agree, I think, that Sudoku is the type of game you either love or hate. There doesn’t seem to be a middle ground. With Sudoku Epic you’ll be in sudoku heaven if you like games like these because it offers literally billions of puzzles! That is indeed EPIC, isn’t it? You won’t be getting bored any time soon here, but it if that does happen, you can change the board size, level of difficulty, enter the newspapers’ sudoku puzzles into the game, or simply design your own puzzles using the built-in editor. If you’re new to Sudoku, give it a whirl! You might find it challenging and fun. Basically, you’ll need to fill all blank squares on a 9×9 grid with the correct numbers. Each column and row must have numbers 1 though 9, with no repeats. Lastly, the nine 3×3 boxes that make up the grid must also contain numbers 1 through 9. If the game draws you in, say, in the first 20 minutes or so, you are probably a lover of sudoku. Otherwise, you might belong to the other category.

DinerTown Detective Agency

Contrary to popular belief, crime runs rampant in Dinertown! Socks keep disappearing from the laundomat; Chewed up gum ends up all over the diner, and someone filled the museum’s Egyptian vase with pudding! Lastly, and probably the biggest of crimes; someone’s been sticking their fingers in the jelly donuts. OH MY GAH. Luckily, Bernie the Bookworm is a detective in training and has the energy and drive to find the guilty party with his shrewd sleuthing. Spend some time with Bernie in this light-hearted hidden objects Mac game and see if Bernie will be able to solve all of the wacky crimes happening in Dinertown.

Annie’s Millions

Have you wondered what you’d buy if you had a million dollars? Or is that just me? Anyway, with this new Mac game, Annie’s Millions, live vicariously through Annie, as she spends a million dollars in order to inherit her uncle’s fortune. You see, her eccentric uncle has decided to pass on his riches while he’s still alive but he’s not sure who to give this inheritance to. I don’t know why he can’t just split it up and give it to everyone – but I suppose that would be less interesting so he decided to instigate a friendly family competition among Annie and her cousins. To fuel the fire in this money race, time is of the essence. Whoever spends a million dollars first, and spends it wisely, will win uncle’s jackpot. In each hidden objects scene, you’ll need to find and purchase everything on the list to move on to a new buying spree scene. Spend away until you reach a total of one million dollars! Note: if you need to use a hint, you have to earn it by playing mini-games.

EcoRescue Project Rainforest

You might not feel AS guilty playing Eco Rescue Project Rainforest as you might with other time wasting games – and we could use any excuse we can to play games, right? There’s no made up story about someone getting kidnapped and you having to rescue them, and there’s no fictitious evil curse to be lifted by your gaming skills. Here, you’ll jump right into a factual milieu. While you do play a conservationist, the prodigious information about the world’s rain forests is true. Your official mission is to restore the rain forests all over the world by removing their pollution. With hidden object game play, identify changes in the environment, help out the animals in danger of losing their habitats and restore the regions. All throughout this Mac game, learn fascinating facts about various environments and rain forests as you rescue these rain forests being threatened by Man.

4 Elements- A once blissful land has been turned to blackness because the four powerful forces of nature (air, earth, fire and water) have become disrupted and unbalanced. You’ll need to locate 4 books of magic that only you can decipher by journeying through many levels of puzzles. Finding these 4 elements will unscramble the books’ secrets and will help return the land to its original state of being. Your only assistance comes from a forest fairy. 4 Elements is a twist on the gem match three genre and also offers different kinds of game play. Throughout your journey, you’ll also encounter spot the difference games as well as hidden object challenges. Download it

Ancient Hearts and Spades – Ancient Hearts and Spades takes two of the world’s most popular card games and gives them a surprisingly fresh new look right on your Mac’s desktop. These are two of the many games I grew up playing with my family but we used real cards; what a concept! Anyway, some of you, too, might remember why you spent hours and hours playing them. If you’ve never played Hearts or Spades, you can follow the very excellent, brief and to the point rules of the games. The games are easy to pick up and fun to play. Download it

Sweeney Todd - Short serial publications called Penny Dreadfuls were introduced in England during the 1800s. These fictional horror stories always embraced a macabre plot and each part of the story cost one penny. The String of Pearls: A Romance was one such penny dreadful, which is actually the original story that introduces Sweeney Todd, The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. A brilliant musical, one of my favorites by Stephen Sondheim, as well as a movie were based on this penny dreadful. If you’re unfamiliar, Sweeney Todd’s a vengeful barber who kills his clients by giving them a REAL CLOSE shave, then gives their bodies to his girlfriend so she can make meat pies with them. Fun! Now, on to the game. Of course, the story offers much more depth than the basic plot I’ve just described and there are side stories happening simultaneously: people and items are missing and mysteries must be solved. You’ll have several adventure quests to solve, as well as puzzles and there are a good number of hidden objects challenges, where you’ll be scouring through gritty, grubby 19th century London. Lastly, there’s some singing in this game, but it has nothing to do with the original musical (I wish it did!). You can opt to skip ahead if you want to jump right into the game. Download it

Be Rich - How can you ignore a Mac game called Be Rich? I couldn’t. Pick up this sim game and work on various construction projects. Your success with building a number of things: cinemas, apartment buildings, mansions, chateaux, luxury stores, amusement parks and more – will be directly related to whether you will accomplish exactly what this game is called. In each town, you’ll have different challenges. While you take on construction jobs, you must also juggle buying, selling and upgrading other properties. Can you handle all that? Then, it’s time for you to Be Rich! If you enjoyed the Build a Lot series of Mac Games you’ll probably love Be Rich. Download it

Simplz Zoo – Similar to the captivating Fishdom game series, which combines either match three games or hidden object games with a sim, the perhaps even more addictive Simplz Zoo also takes inspiration from this formula but instead of building an aquarium here, gamers will build a zoo from scratch. The choices for your zoo masterpiece are enormous. First, play through match three puzzles swapping icons vertically, horizontally and diagonally – accumulating resources like food, building materials, decorations, money, manpower, pathways and more in order to construct a zoo that is as elaborate (or simple) as your imagination will allow. Your zoo starts out ranked as number 1000 out of 1000, so things can only get better from there as you strive to move up the ladder to become number 1. It takes playing through a lot of puzzles, planning strategically, caring for animals, saving endangered species and organizing and maintaining a zoo, and this will keep you busy for a long time, but I think you’ll love every minute of it. Boonka – Boonka is a clever, creative and rather kooky twist on sliding puzzle match Mac games, and it even has a fundamental environment message to boot. Your ultimate mission in Boonka is to rebuild a group of trees that have been chopped down by the evil Skours, portrayed as dark, menacing clouds. Unlike other match games that either swap tiles (like Bejeweled) or slide and line up tiles (like Chuzzle), gamers can move Boonkas in any direction individually but only horizontal matches can be made. Use the pixie jars to eliminate anything above them so Boonkas don’t stack up to the top. If that happens, the Skours win and you have to start over. If you successfully remove the Boonkas, the trees begin to grow back! Download it

Youda Legend The Golden Bird of Paradise – The Youda Legend continues following the huge and successful hidden objects Mac game, Curse of the Amsterdam Diamond. In this installment, you’ve taken a much needed vacation just after your action packed adventure in Amsterdam, but a visit to a fortune teller soon has you embarking on a new journey that will take you to faraway tropical islands. This leads you on an odyssey to ancient temples. Later, you will come across a long vanished tribal civilization and finally be able to reveal the unyielding mystery of the golden bird of paradise. Alice’s Teacup Madness – I think and hope Lewis Carroll would be flattered knowing that his whimsical and nonsensical literary tale was translated into a Mac game. Alice’s Tea Cup Madness follows the original story in that Alice has fallen down a rabbit hole, but diverges immediately from there. In order for Alice to exit the wacky world of wonder, she’s to work and earn her way out of there by serving tea and pastries to quirky and oftentimes picky characters. Download it

Pop-a-tronic – Pop-a-Tronic is an addictive bubble popping puzzle game for Mac. As bubbles fill the screen, pop them as fast as you can. Inhale bubbles and pick a new place to drop them. The bubbles are constantly approaching, so do your best to clear the board as fast as you can. There are four game modes to vary the game play: Puzzle, Marathon, Lock-Out or Self Destruct. The game might remind some gamers of Collapse but with more game modes, power ups, challenges and bonuses. Download it

The Tudors – The Royal House of Tudor ruled the Kingdom of England and its realms, including the Lordship and Kingdom of Ireland, from 1485 until 1603. The powerful monarchs inspired Showtime to create a historical fiction television series based on this long lineage, and so “The Tudors” was born. The tumultuous times during King Henry VIII and beyond now brings gamers a whole slew of treachery, politics and murderous plots into this hidden objects Mac game. The king requests that you be his eyes and ears and you are drawn into a world of deception and murder. As you assume the role of a royal spy, uncover conspiracies, assassination attempts and other threats against England and her King. Download it

The Great Tree – Every now and again, an unexpectedly different game is released and you savor each and every minute of playing it because it’s fun and you don’t know when the next time you’ll come across anything as unique again. Combining an unlikely mix of old school action gaming with otherworldly mysticism, you might feel that way about The Great Tree. You are a 1000 year old child on a mission to collect pollen floating through the air. You’ll then take this magical pollen to the Great Tree via a transient star, and this will save the forest fairies and keep the tree from dying. Download it

Top Chef – Much like the Top Chef TV show, in the game, you’ll be competing against a line-up of chefs completing various cooking challenges. You’ll then have your meals judged by Padma Lakshmi and Tom Colicchio. Unlike other cooking games, you’ll be creating recipes yourself, rather than following someone else’s recipes. Padma will brief you on what is required of you, then off you go to one of your many workstations. You do have to know your foods to succeed with Top Chef, which makes the game ideal for foodie gamers. Download it

My Kingdom for the Princess – In this simulation meets time-management game, a wicked tornado has hit the kingdom swirling around people, animals, trees, roads, hamlets and more. Everything is in ruins, and King Olgert was struck by lightning laying ill and teetering between life and death. His daughter, Princess Helen, must return to the castle to see her ailing dad. To make matters worse, there’s a fire-breathing dragon with a growling stomach flying above the land, ready to prey on its next human meal. Take on the role of the chivalrous, brave knight named Arthur to escort the Princess safely back to the empire, and to restore the kingdom back to its original state. Download it

Strange Cases: The Tarot Card Mystery – This hidden objects adventure takes you on an investigation with FBI Agent Claire Ellery, in what seems to be a triple kidnapping in an unassuming small town. When an anonymous source leaves behind strange tarot cards at various locations, the case becomes more complicated and our agent soon realizes there’s more to it than an ordinary kidnapping. Follow each of the tarot cards while also solving challenging puzzles and looking for hidden objects that may help shed light on the kidnapping as well as on the strange rituals about to take place. Agatha Christie Peril at End House

As the best-selling writer of books of all time and the best-selling writer of any kind, Agatha Christie has influenced not only her loyal readers but unsuspecting audiences as well. Her works have been adapted into cartoons, anime, films, stage works, television series (Poirot, Miss Marple, etc.) and games. The game takes its inspiration from the original novel of the same name, Peril at End House, A Hercule Poirot Mystery, which was written 76 years ago. In typical Agatha Christie fashion, this Mac game is also a “whodunit” using I-Spy, hidden objects game play. In order to solve this murder mystery, gamers are to play through dozens of fun puzzles. Nick Buckley is the last in a long line of Buckleys living at End House, an enormous and isolated estate overlooking the cliffs of St. Loo. Following several attempts on Nick’s life, the famous Belgian detective Hercule Poirot steps in to find out who the killer is and vows to unravel their motives before it’s too late.
