10 Step Guide to iPhone Custom Ringtones in GarageBand ‘08

December 20th, 2007 by cate

From iLounge:

It was one of Apple’s worst decisions of 2007: even if you owned a song and wanted to use it as an iPhone ringtone, you couldn’t. Instead, the only custom ringtones you could play were ones sold at a ridiculous price through iTunes, or ones that required hacks and third-party applications to create. Today, Apple has fixed its prior bad call, releasing version 4.1.1 of the iLife ‘08 application GarageBand, an update that now lets you create your own custom iPhone ringtones. Now that Apple has released both GarageBand ‘08 and iTunes 7.5, which stopped trying to block ringtones created by third-party applications, iPhone ringtone creation has never been so easy. Our ten step guide walks you through the process.

Steve Job’s Customized Mercedes CLS?

December 11th, 2007 by cate

from left lane news:German car customizer Mattes Interieurtechnik has created a customized Mercedes CLS with a nicely integrated iMac personal computer in the rear seats. The iMac’s compact all-in-one design lends itself to such an installation, and the firm makes sure the integration is complete with slick leather covering around the machine. A wireless mouse and keyboard mean there are no exposed wires to contend with. Of course, the customized CLS also gets a completely revised interior, with some pretty fancy upholstery and trimmings…

Apple Slim Notebook Rumors

December 10th, 2007 by cate

From: macrumors:

As rumors start to build for Macworld San Francisco 2008, the most consistent rumor appears to be one of an ultra-portable Apple notebook computer.

These rumors started back in March 2006 by MacScoop who indicated that “very reliable” sources had indicated that Apple was planning on releasing an “ultra-thin 12 inch Mac Book Pro”. More confirmation came from an analyst, Benjamin Reitzes in June, 2006 with expectations that an “ultra-portable” Mac could be delivered as early as Macworld San Francisco 2007. Reitzes also suggested that these new ultra-portables would use NAND flash memory, either in combination with a traditional hard drive or using NAND flash alone.

Indeed, earlier in 2006, Digitimes had first reported that Apple and Intel were researching the use of NAND flash in portables to improve boot time and battery life. MacScoop later detailed the thin-laptop to be a $1700-$1800 12″ MacBook Pro with dual core processor and still retain an optical drive.

Macworld San Francisco 2007, of course, came and went with no new ultra-portable, but in February, more claims emerged from Appleinsider confirming that Apple was working on a mini-MacBook “lighter and more compact than any other Mac portable Apple has put forth in recent years”. These specs claimed that the new laptop would exclude a built-in optical drive and would indeed use NAND flash memory.

9to5mac added a report in September that an aluminum MacBook prototype had been spotted that was…

Platinum iPhone

From gizmodo:
platinum iphone

“The iPhone just went platinum, literally. From the precious metal enthusiasts at Goldstriker International, you can now buy a platinum-coated iPhone for about $2,230. And while most of us aren’t interested in purchasing or carrying around a platinum iPhone (that will scratch to hell, btw), it’s still the best way to shut up that a’hole talking on his gold iPhone. Well, that, or watching him get mugged while your friends hold him down.”

Is Apple Getting Ready for a TABLET???????

November 26th, 2007 by cate

From Apple Insider:

Three patent filings set into motion by Apple just a month after the iPhone’s US debut open the door to curved multi-touch surfaces that can recognize more than just finger.

Pieced together through US-based patents for a sensor layout as well as those for mobile sensors and compliant conductors, the collective technology uses improved touch input nodes that are accurate enough to create a sensor image of different parts of the hand while not being bound to any particular size, shape, or resolution.

This will let a given multi-touch device not just recognize more complicated gestures, such as grabbing or swiping motions with one or more fingers, but also selectively disable input depending on the immediate context. Typists could leave their palms on a touch-sensitive device without activating controls while gaining the palm rest area back for other functions when necessary, or cease moving a cursor when a finger comes to a complete stop.

A version of the technology with pressure sensitivity could also exploit this ability to recognize rolling, tilting, or twisting motions for manipulating content in 3D, Apple explains in the patents.

But because the touch controls would not have to be flat, the combination of these advancements could lead to…”

I LOVE My New Camera

November 23rd, 2007 by cate

sony cybershot digital cameraNot really Mac related but I’m soo excited because I got a new camera and it’s pretty awesome. I got the Sony Cybershot Digital Camera, which is tiny, sleek and very versatile. I have 2 Canons, which I love. I’ve been using the Canon Rebel, which is big, and I wanted a smaller, more discrete camera that is quiet and took pictures in low light without a flash. This is it. This tiny thing actually has more pixels than my big Canon. I am not getting rid of the Canons but I do welcome my adorable Cybershot. This is a neat, little cam! It has a “smile detector” that takes pictures upon detecting a smile. It also detects faces, which is no short of truly amazing.

Lastly, it has a mini photoshop thing directly built into it so you can write text on photos if you want. BUT. One of my favorite things is that you can add “sitckers” to photos like little hearts and other cute stuff! Love that feature.
