The selections are based on the following factors: 1) Technology, in other words, how smoothly does the app run and general performance; 2) Usefulness values; 3) Integration: the whole package (how well integrated are the theme, graphics, interface, user experience and user friendliness); 4) Quality of concept; and, 5) It's really and truly Free.
The chosen applications span many areas and I've tried to pick a variety of different software applications. There are many freeware applications that do the same thing so I had to choose my personal favorite. That doesn't mean the others were necessarily inferior, rather, for what ever reason (my own Mac's performance, personal design preferences etc.) it stood out for me. Some of you might be annoyed about certain apps that are missing from this list. One word: Sorry. Obviously, there are great freeware apps out there and so many of them. It's difficult to try every one of them, let alone find them. Also, in some cases, I did not try some software because I do not have the appropriate hardware or the need for many of them. Please send me an email if you have suggestions and it may get included in subsequent issues of "Best of Mac OS X Freeware from Mac Games and More."
