Aloha Tripeaks – The next installment of the Aloha game series (Remember the card matching Mahjong game, Aloha Solitaire?) is Aloha Tripeaks, where players take a balloon ride over the Hawaiian Islands and play 70 levels of solitaire card games. The game is based on the classic “Pyramid Golf” solitaire game, where gamers build on the tableau’s stock pile with cards that are one value higher or lower to the face up card, either ascending or descending. To win the level, eliminate all cards on the tableau, moving them to the stock pile. The cool difference here is when you’re stuck and there are no more moves, your handy bonuses can save you! The game also features interesting trivia about the Hawaiian Islands. Download it

Sparkle – Sparkle is one my favorite and most addictive Luxor-like games where you exert your aiming skills to free the Crowberry Woods from the shadow of Darkness. Use your Orb Slinger to shoot colorful spheres into groups of three or more of the same color, which clears the chain of orbs from the board – and in doing so, reclaim every corner of the verdant forest. Pick up amazing amulets and sparkling power-ups hidden along the shaded path. Download it

Thomas and the Magical Words – Combining Scrabble with arcade gaming and a little Harry Potter thrown in, Thomas and the Magical Words will keep word gamers, kids and adults alike, entertained for hours. Tommy has been thrown in a book of spells by his uncle and it’s up to you to help him escape his imprisonment by creating a word path to exit the book. Download it

Treasure Seekers The Enchanted Canvases – Treasure Seekers The Enchanted Canvases takes you to a Romanian castle where Nelly’s brother, Tom, was last seen trying to find the Philosopher’s Stone, a relic with mystical powers. She soon realizes the only way to find him is to step inside each painting hanging on the wall and interact with the characters on these magical canvases, who will then reveal clues that will bring her closer to finding Tom. Solve adventure quests with hidden object challenges to break the castle’s spell, find Tom and discover the secrets of the Philosopher’s Stone. Download it

Peggle Nights

It’s a rare accomplishment when a game manages to require an equal amount of luck and skill at the same time. Peggle Nights, the second installment of the popular Peggle series, does just that, which is probably why the game is so infuriatingly addictive. It’s much like the game of pachinko except that you initially have the opportunity to shoot the ball with a certain amount of control, rather than shooting it up into the board randomly and crossing your fingers that it’ll land in auspicious places. With Peggle Nights you can accurately aim and hit some of the targets to a degree, but after a while you must rely on luck for the balls to land on more targets or bonus pegs. This combination of game play will surprise you.

Simplz Zoo – Similar to the captivating Fishdom game series, which combines either match three games or hidden object games with a sim, the perhaps even more addictive Simplz Zoo also takes inspiration from this formula but instead of building an aquarium here, gamers will build a zoo from scratch. The choices for your zoo masterpiece are enormous. First, play through match three puzzles swapping icons vertically, horizontally and diagonally – accumulating resources like food, building materials, decorations, money, manpower, pathways and more in order to construct a zoo that is as elaborate (or simple) as your imagination will allow. Your zoo starts out ranked as number 1000 out of 1000, so things can only get better from there as you strive to move up the ladder to become number 1. It takes playing through a lot of puzzles, planning strategically, caring for animals, saving endangered species and organizing and maintaining a zoo, and this will keep you busy for a long time, but I think you’ll love every minute of it. Boonka – Boonka is a clever, creative and rather kooky twist on sliding puzzle match Mac games, and it even has a fundamental environment message to boot. Your ultimate mission in Boonka is to rebuild a group of trees that have been chopped down by the evil Skours, portrayed as dark, menacing clouds. Unlike other match games that either swap tiles (like Bejeweled) or slide and line up tiles (like Chuzzle), gamers can move Boonkas in any direction individually but only horizontal matches can be made. Use the pixie jars to eliminate anything above them so Boonkas don’t stack up to the top. If that happens, the Skours win and you have to start over. If you successfully remove the Boonkas, the trees begin to grow back! Download it

Youda Legend The Golden Bird of Paradise – The Youda Legend continues following the huge and successful hidden objects Mac game, Curse of the Amsterdam Diamond. In this installment, you’ve taken a much needed vacation just after your action packed adventure in Amsterdam, but a visit to a fortune teller soon has you embarking on a new journey that will take you to faraway tropical islands. This leads you on an odyssey to ancient temples. Later, you will come across a long vanished tribal civilization and finally be able to reveal the unyielding mystery of the golden bird of paradise. Alice’s Teacup Madness – I think and hope Lewis Carroll would be flattered knowing that his whimsical and nonsensical literary tale was translated into a Mac game. Alice’s Tea Cup Madness follows the original story in that Alice has fallen down a rabbit hole, but diverges immediately from there. In order for Alice to exit the wacky world of wonder, she’s to work and earn her way out of there by serving tea and pastries to quirky and oftentimes picky characters. Download it

Pop-a-tronic – Pop-a-Tronic is an addictive bubble popping puzzle game for Mac. As bubbles fill the screen, pop them as fast as you can. Inhale bubbles and pick a new place to drop them. The bubbles are constantly approaching, so do your best to clear the board as fast as you can. There are four game modes to vary the game play: Puzzle, Marathon, Lock-Out or Self Destruct. The game might remind some gamers of Collapse but with more game modes, power ups, challenges and bonuses. Download it

Zuma – When Zuma was first released, it was groundbreaking news, at least in the world of indie casual game development. Popcap became the pioneers of the orb/marble shooter games, the original trendsetters of the genre, and it was exciting to play something new. That was 2003 and since then, many developers have followed with more action orb shooters (StoneLoops, Luxor, Atlantis Sky Patrol, Sparkle, Sweetopia and more), but I will always remember Zuma as the breakthrough paradigm. Fire different color balls to make sets of three or more, but don’t let the chain reach the golden skull or else! Download it

Gotcha Celebrity Secrets – In Gotcha Celebrity Secrets, get ready to push aside the Queen of all Media, Perez Hilton, because there’s a new Queen of Celeb gossip: you. You’re Gaby, and you hate your day job and aspire to make it big as a celeb news blogger. Work hard, follow all celebrity gossip leads and do whatever it takes to compete in the world of cut-throat competitive star gossip. The entertainment industry is a blog-eat-blogger world so grow some tough skin, move forward and get the secret scoops of the stars first. If you can get an interview with famous rockers and stars, you will smush the current king blogger of star gossip like a bug! Build It Miami Beach Resort – Although it IS winter time, some people would rather forget that it’s 10 degrees outside where they live with their homes covered in snow, and bah humbug to the holidays. I’m good with all kinds of weather, luckily. Of course, this year for us, it’s very warm, sunny and toasty outside. Anyway, here’s a game to forget that the weather outside is frightful: Build it Miami Beach Resort. In this sim game for Mac, travel to the sunshine state and build a beach resort, but not just any ole beach resort. Custom design everything to your own satisfaction. Beginning in the 1920’s, every year starts a new level. Will you create memorable art-deco hotels, work with the fact that cinema has just been invented? How will you handle the first fast-food diner? Then, decades later how about building palatial hotels right on beachfront property? Little Shop Memories – This one’s for the type of gamer who is especially fond of hidden object games, in fact, I’m pretty sure these gamers will really love Little Shop Memories. Take a nostalgic trip to the past and search through five decades of memories and discover trinkets, keepsakes and photos from your journey when you were on your way to becoming a successful Little Shop entrepreneur. Your path to success began with your humble little lemonade stand from way back when, remember? There’s a lot of puzzles to solve and so much stuff to go through so look carefully and make sure to click on cameras, which will be one of your favorite bonus items in this hidden objects game for your Mac. Sudoku Latin Squares – Unless you’ve had your head under a rock for the last few years, you probably have heard of this numerical brain teaser craze. With Sudoku Latin Squares, you can play the classic, mesmerizing game of Sudoku, which is filling in a grid of squares with correct numbers, but in another mode SLS adds a fun little game twist: You’ll find puzzles with grids as small as 3×3, which is ideal for young gamers or people new to Sudoku – or as large as 9×9 (for expert Sudoku players). Adjoining cells within this grid also differ in color, such as red, blue or yellow, letting gamers know that a number cannot repeat within the same color, nor in its row or column. Lastly, the numbers only go as high as the grid’s size, so a 4×4 grid only has numbers that go from 1 to 4. With a built in clock, beat your own time per puzzle. Download it

Bubble Ice Age

As if we’re not getting enough cold weather lately, even in places like sunny socal, here’s another game to remind you that the weather outside is frightful, but the games inside are so delightful. Bubble Ice Age takes place in a snowy, frozen and colorful place, a place where shooting icy bubbles of the same color cause a sort of avalanche. Match three of more of the same bubbles and they’ll fall off the board. Clear the board to move on to the proceeding levels. The game gets progressively more difficult so be prepared!

Fun Friday of Five Mac Games

Azada – As one of my favorite adventure games, I absolutely must recommend this game today. Azada is for gamers who prefer a wide variety of game play while getting sucked into a captivating story. Find yourself locked up in a room with the game’s protagonist, Titus, trapped by his great uncle’s spell. In order to discover the whole story, solve numerous mind-twisting puzzles. As you progress through the five chapters each with eight pages, things begin to make more sense, the spell will be released and secrets will finally be revealed. Download it

Atlantis Sky Patrol – In this visually sleek steampunk/art deco inspired orb shooter, you’re a member of Sky Patrol on a mission to confront the threatening weapons that were unleashed upon earth. You must disarm and dismantle these devices before it’s too late. While the game reflects the greatness of the original game of this genre, Zuma, it manages to add its own originality in game play as well as theme. 100 levels. Download it

Magic Stones – Magic Stones is a game based on Celtic mythology and is a unique mix of fantasy role-playing games with card games. Set in the land of Aravorn, where players can find various hidden treasures in the darkest, most menacing places and where druids are challenged to duel to the death every year in the Black Tower, play three different styles, choose from 20 different avatars, each one with his unique skills, and brave the 17 different spells, and over 15 total enemy druids. Trijinx – Trijinx takes place in a popular game setting: Egypt. The game follows the story of Kristine Kross, an international adventurer who is on the trail of her archaeologist father, recently gone missing in an Egyptian tomb. Accompanied by an orange cat named Bast and her fez-sporting Professor, Kristine winds her way through an labyrinthine maze solving colorful puzzles to break a curse that has fallen upon her dad. Rotate a circular board to assemble same-color tiles, which then disappear once matched, which unlock doors progressively bringing her closer to the ancient gates. Princess Isabella A Witch’s Curse

Every single room in Princess Isabella’s castle is cursed. Not only that, everyone in the castle has been turned into mirrors, except Princess Isabella. She was lucky enough to be out while a wrathful witch snuck in and put this evil spell on the entire château. That’s a royal pain, so now you’re on a quest to reverse this most unfortunate series of events and release your friends and family from their glass menagerie.

I’m not going to say this is a hidden objects game per se, though there ARE hidden object games within it. Princess Isabella A Witch’s Curse is rather, filled with so many different kinds of games, I don’t want to categorize it. Featuring marble shooters, logic puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, adventure quests, even a quiz – the game will keep you happily occupied wandering around this enormous regal home, solving, playing and ultimately defeating the wicked witch.

Fun Friday of Five Mac Games

Bud Redhead – Bud Redhead will pluck at the heart strings of retrogamers and gamers in general, who love jump and run, Mario-like games. Although Bud has been around for some time now, it remains to be a popular choice in the world of casual gaming. With attentive and devoted development, the game progresses beautifully and naturally through four worlds in the space-time continuum. It gets players to want more so they can play through all the absolutely huge levels. It’s one of those games that you HAVE to finish. Bud Redhead took four years to produce and the dedicated work shows. It’s one of our all time favorite games that concludes with a twist (spoiler!): a showdown shoot ‘em up style ending against the Big Boss. Download it

Pirate Poppers – Yo Scallywags! Skillfully aim and shoot same color balls from your cannon moving side to side at the bottom of the game board. As you create chain explosions, catch power ups, bonuses, precious pearls, gems, gold, goblets and other booty to fill your coveted treasure trove. In Pirate Poppers, which is a variation of Zuma and Luxor, start off as a lowly Landlubber collecting valuable trickets and jewels, then work your way up the pirate ranks to become a proud Scurvy Dog. Perhaps being called a Powder Monkey is more incentive. Is a pirate’s life for you? While the game play incorporates some luck on your side, you’ll require some skill as well. Shoot for combo chain explosions, work fast and you won’t be sent to walk the plank.

Tasty Planet – Tasty Planet is another one of our favorites, and will remind some gamers of Katamari Damacy, which involves a mission to rebuild the universe by pushing around a sticky ball accumulating everything it rolls on. In Tasty Planet, however, the tale involves a science experiment gone very, very wrong. Instead of rebuilding the universe, you try to destroy it by eating it. You begin as a teeny tiny, unstoppable blob that gobbles up everything in its path, starting with amoebas and germs. The more you eat the more you grow in size but you can never eat anything bigger than your head. Isn’t that what your mother used to tell you? The next edibles you’ll want to devour and digest might involve golf balls, cars, trees, houses. What’s next, planets? Yes! The bigger you grow the larger the meal possibilities. Yum! Download it

Air Assault – This is a classic, action-arcade helicopter shooter with you leading a mission to fight terrorist forces to save the world. Fly your helicopter above enemy lines to destroy as many opponents and strategic peripheral elements (barracks, bridges, antennas) as possible. Use your skills, guns, missiles, rockets and whatever you can get your hands on to fight for the cause. As you progress, the game’s difficulty level increases. The game features 10 different power ups, over 30 types of enemies and 30 levels. Download it

Sprouts Adventure – If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to play God, here’s your chance. In this sim game for Mac, a devastating storm nearly wipes out an entire population of sprouts, which are cute, squeaky little beings. The few survivors remaining need help. This is where you step in. As ruler you must guide the sprouts back to their original prosperous life. How will you do that? The sprouts are counting on you to put them back on track and to return them to the lifestyle they once loved. Keep them fed, assist them in rebuilding their homes and land, help them invent wonderful toys to play with, and ultimately keep them happy and productive. Try to earn as many Karma points as you can and do remember to remove the weeds! Download it
