Sparkle – Sparkle is one my favorite and most addictive Luxor-like games where you exert your aiming skills to free the Crowberry Woods from the shadow of Darkness. You’ll need to locate 4 books of magic that only you can decipher by journeying through many levels of puzzles. Finding these 4 elements will unscramble the books’ secrets and will help return the land to its original state of being. Your only assistance comes from a forest fairy. 4 Elements is a twist on the gem match three genre and also offers different kinds of game play. Throughout your journey, you’ll also encounter spot the difference games as well as hidden object challenges. Download it

Ancient Hearts and Spades – Ancient Hearts and Spades takes two of the world’s most popular card games and gives them a surprisingly fresh new look right on your Mac’s desktop. These are two of the many games I grew up playing with my family but we used real cards; what a concept! Anyway, some of you, too, might remember why you spent hours and hours playing them. If you’ve never played Hearts or Spades, you can follow the very excellent, brief and to the point rules of the games. The games are easy to pick up and fun to play. Download it

Sweeney Todd - Short serial publications called Penny Dreadfuls were introduced in England during the 1800s. These fictional horror stories always embraced a macabre plot and each part of the story cost one penny. The String of Pearls: A Romance was one such penny dreadful, which is actually the original story that introduces Sweeney Todd, The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. A brilliant musical, one of my favorites by Stephen Sondheim, as well as a movie were based on this penny dreadful. If you’re unfamiliar, Sweeney Todd’s a vengeful barber who kills his clients by giving them a REAL CLOSE shave, then gives their bodies to his girlfriend so she can make meat pies with them. Fun! Now, on to the game. Of course, the story offers much more depth than the basic plot I’ve just described and there are side stories happening simultaneously: people and items are missing and mysteries must be solved. You’ll have several adventure quests to solve, as well as puzzles and there are a good number of hidden objects challenges, where you’ll be scouring through gritty, grubby 19th century London. Lastly, there’s some singing in this game, but it has nothing to do with the original musical (I wish it did!). You can opt to skip ahead if you want to jump right into the game. Download it

Be Rich - How can you ignore a Mac game called Be Rich? I couldn’t. Pick up this sim game and work on various construction projects. Your success with building a number of things: cinemas, apartment buildings, mansions, chateaux, luxury stores, amusement parks and more – will be directly related to whether you will accomplish exactly what this game is called. In each town, you’ll have different challenges. While you take on construction jobs, you must also juggle buying, selling and upgrading other properties. Can you handle all that? Then, it’s time for you to Be Rich! If you enjoyed the Build a Lot series of Mac Games you’ll probably love Be Rich. Download it

Tibet Quest – When the Jewel Quest series was released, it became an instant hit and one very popular jewel game franchise for Mac. That was already some time ago and those gamers were left with a little gaming void since. I think Tibet Quest would be a good follow up for those people. Its match three game play is a bit like Jewel Quest but there are different twists and fun elements. The story takes place in Tibet where Jane’s father was last seen in search of the fictitious and mystical city of Shangri La (originally made famous in a novel, Lost Horizon, by James Hilton). She discovers his journal and tracks his path based on information found within. Traveling amidst the beautiful lanscape, she then meets the Dalai Lama who advises her to go to the Temple of Potala to find stolten artifacts. The game takes you through the mountainous terrain of the Himalayas to find out what happened and to enlighten you on your way to finding the secrets to Shangri La. Download it

Skip Bo Castaway Caper – Skip Bo Castaway Caper takes you to an island but once you arrive, you’re not initially given a warm welcome, particularly by the Great Volcano. In fact, you’ve angered him and he’s spewing all over the place! In order to appease him, you’ll have to win 10 tribal challenges. For each challenge, you must play four matches of Skip-Bo against the natives. You have to beat every game to win. Just in case you have not heard of it, Skip-Bo is similar to UNO (if that helps), but since UNO is often compared to Crazy 8s, Skip-BO rather more closely resembles Spit, or Cat and Mouse. If none of those games sound familiar, don’t worry because the game is easy to pick up. In a nutshell, you must rid yourself of your stock pile of cards, put them in sequential order on the board. Skip Bo cards are wild cards. It’s best to just jump right in to play! Download it

Secret Missions: Mata Hari and the Kaiser’s Submarines – Imagine James Bond in female form, and who would that be? Mata Hari, of course. In Secret Missions: Mata Hari and the Kaiser’s Submarines hang with international Allied Forces spy, Mata Hari as she seduces her way to complete her mission: infiltrate secret German submarine operations. While I’d classify this game as an adventure game, it’s also much more than that as it’s filled with hidden objects, tricky puzzles and clues to get her closer to her main objective, and she does all this without breaking a fingernail AND in the most glamorous evening wear! Mr. Jones’ Graveyard Shift – The HBO hit series, Six Feet Under, was not only a brilliant show on television, it also put the business of death on people’s radars. In this industry, you will be reassured to always have customers because, well … people will always … anyway. Of course, while the Fisher family took care of the mortuary side of the funeral biz, or the first part of death, so to speak, you will jump into this sim game with Mr. Jones, taking care of the last half of the process. Start out with just a shovel and some old grave markers and eventually build up your cemetery into a marble-clad festival of trendy crypts. Branch out and decorate green ways, and erect elaborate monuments and statues and more. Since Mr. Jones has no time to waste, he’s working the graveyard shift in an attempt to make his cemetery business profitable. If he’s successful and hits all of his goals, then he’ll be able to get back together with his killer greedy girlfriend. Download it

Xmas Blox – It’s officially December, which is general consensus and considered fair game to begin showing off holiday-themed wares. Mac game developers are no exception, which is fine with me because I love December and January and everything that comes with them. Whether or not Xmas Blox puts you in a holiday mood, it’s still a fun little diversion for puzzle gamers. The game takes place on an ice skating rink. However, instead of skaters twirling about, you’ll find ice cubes sliding around, making fools of themselves and bursting into icy flakes whenever you arrange three or more of the same color ice cubes together. The cubes stack up so you have layers to deal with, and there are increasingly more obstacles to contend with, so the game starts out fairly easy but soon becomes very challenging. You’re timed, too! This is exactly what die-hard puzzle gamers love. Luckily you’ll also encounter many bonuses that can help you get out of traps, so use your logic and plan wisely so you can continue on to the next levels. Download it

Azada – As one of my favorite adventure games, I absolutely must recommend this game today. Azada is for gamers who prefer a wide variety of game play while getting sucked into a captivating story. Find yourself locked up in a room with the game’s protagonist, Titus, trapped by his great uncle’s spell. In order to discover the whole story, solve numerous mind-twisting puzzles. As you progress through the five chapters each with eight pages, things begin to make more sense, the spell will be released and secrets will finally be revealed. Download it

Atlantis Sky Patrol – In this visually sleek steampunk/art deco inspired orb shooter, you’re a member of Sky Patrol on a mission to confront the threatening weapons that were unleashed upon earth. You must disarm and dismantle these devices before it’s too late. While the game reflects the greatness of the original game of this genre, Zuma, it manages to add its own originality in game play as well as theme. 100 levels. Download it

Magic Stones – Magic Stones is a game based on Celtic mythology and is a unique mix of fantasy role-playing games with card games. Set in the land of Aravorn, where players can find various hidden treasures in the darkest, most menacing places and where druids are challenged to duel to the death every year in the Black Tower, play three different styles, choose from 20 different avatars, each one with his unique skills, and brave the 17 different spells, and over 15 total enemy druids. Trijinx – Trijinx takes place in a popular game setting: Egypt. The game follows the story of Kristine Kross, an international adventurer who is on the trail of her archaeologist father, recently gone missing in an Egyptian tomb. Accompanied by an orange cat named Bast and her fez-sporting Professor, Kristine winds her way through an labyrinthine maze solving colorful puzzles to break a curse that has fallen upon her dad.
