More of an adventure game for Mac than a seek and find game, in Echoes of the Past - Royal House of Stone you’ll be exploring every single room in the castle (doesn’t that sound a little like Princess Isabella the Witch’s Curse?) and finding that people have been locked into paintings, frozen in time. To lift this most unfortunate curse and to find out what exactly happened, play through a series of hidden objects challenges and adventure puzzles. How will it all end? I wonder. Okay actually, there’s a cliffhanger! That’s not giving too much away, is it?

Mary Kay Andrews The Fixer Upper starts out entwined in a much too familiar story: A politician gets caught misusing government funds to visit his favorite prostitutes. Of course, it’s his assistant, Dempsey Jo Killebrew, who gets sacked. Without a job, she’s left broke and homeless – so she ends up taking up her father’s offer to help renovate Birdsong, the family place he recently inherited in Guthrie, Georgia – so as you help fix up Birdsong you’ll also be searching for hidden objects and playing through various mini-games.

Our friends over at Tycoon Games have released a new game, a unique blend of visual novels, dating and gardening sim games for your Mac. Take control of Steve, who has been shipped off to a farm as punishment because of his bad grades. He’ll spend a summer in Fairbook, working on the farm, making new friends and maintaining old relationships. Raise and sell crops, and work hard to keep the land well-watered and free of weeds and insects. Stop by the flower shop to buy seeds but choose wisely. Some plants take longer to mature, and some crops will get you a better return at the market. In addition to working on the farm, you’ll have to juggle your personal life within this mix. There are four girls you’ll hang out with. Maintain good relationships with them by giving them lots of attention and learning about their hopes and dreams. Impress them by improving your skills, but if you only focus on one thing, they won’t be interested. Build a strong enough friendship with one of them, and it might even bloom into romance.

These are two of the many games I grew up playing with my family but we used real cards; what a concept! Anyway, some of you, too, might remember why you spent hours and hours playing them.  Sweeney Todd - Short serial publications called Penny Dreadfuls were introduced in England during the 1800s. These fictional horror stories always embraced a macabre plot and each part of the story cost one penny. The String of Pearls: A Romance was one such penny dreadful, which is actually the original story that introduces Sweeney Todd, The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. A brilliant musical, one of my favorites by Stephen Sondheim, as well as a movie were based on this penny dreadful. If you’re unfamiliar, Sweeney Todd’s a vengeful barber who kills his clients by giving them a REAL CLOSE shave, then gives their bodies to his girlfriend so she can make meat pies with them. Fun! Now, on to the game. Of course, the story offers much more depth than the basic plot I’ve just described and there are side stories happening simultaneously: people and items are missing and mysteries must be solved. You’ll have several adventure quests to solve, as well as puzzles and there are a good number of hidden objects challenges, where you’ll be scouring through gritty, grubby 19th century London. Lastly, there’s some singing in this game, but it has nothing to do with the original musical (I wish it did!). You can opt to skip ahead if you want to jump right into the game. Download it

The Book of Legends takes you on an adventure with Charlie and Zoe, siblings who find a library book, which turns out to be a tome that holds the key to finding King Arthur’s legendary sword Excalibur. It’s a book so important that, in the wrong hands, could have devastating consequences. The two of them embark on a sort of wild goose chase to follow the book’s clues and, of course, to find the sword, all the while being trailed by three menacing men in black. This Mac game is a mixture of world travel in search of the famous sword, inventory-based puzzles, looking for hidden objects and a medieval meets modern thriller.

Lost in the City is a blend of hidden objects and adventure gaming, and follows the story of our main character, who suddenly finds himself in an abandoned city. He’d been on a date one minute and the next, he wakes up groggy (his date must’ve spiked his coffee!) in a cold, damp basement in an abandoned building with only tiny notes to guide him out of his hell on earth. Each note and puzzle solved gets you closer and closer to finding out the truth, though complex as it may seem, in this vast mystery comparable to a terribly fun B-horror movie mixed with X-Files and a wild goose chase.

 Simplz Zoo – Similar to the captivating Fishdom game series, which combines either match three games or hidden object games with a sim, the perhaps even more addictive Simplz Zoo also takes inspiration from this formula but instead of building an aquarium here, gamers will build a zoo from scratch. The choices for your zoo masterpiece are enormous. First, play through match three puzzles swapping icons vertically, horizontally and diagonally – accumulating resources like food, building materials, decorations, money, manpower, pathways and more in order to construct a zoo that is as elaborate (or simple) as your imagination will allow. Your zoo starts out ranked as number 1000 out of 1000, so things can only get better from there as you strive to move up the ladder to become number 1. It takes playing through a lot of puzzles, planning strategically, caring for animals, saving endangered species and organizing and maintaining a zoo, and this will keep you busy for a long time, but I think you’ll love every minute of it.  Boonka – Boonka is a clever, creative and rather kooky twist on sliding puzzle match Mac games, and it even has a fundamental environment message to boot. Your ultimate mission in Boonka is to rebuild a group of trees that have been chopped down by the evil Skours, portrayed as dark, menacing clouds. Unlike other match games that either swap tiles (like Bejeweled) or slide and line up tiles (like Chuzzle), gamers can move Boonkas in any direction individually but only horizontal matches can be made. Use the pixie jars to eliminate anything above them so Boonkas don’t stack up to the top. If that happens, the Skours win and you have to start over. If you successfully remove the Boonkas, the trees begin to grow back! Download it

 Youda Legend The Golden Bird of Paradise – The Youda Legend continues following the huge and successful hidden objects Mac game, Curse of the Amsterdam Diamond. In this installment, you’ve taken a much needed vacation just after your action packed adventure in Amsterdam, but a visit to a fortune teller soon has you embarking on a new journey that will take you to faraway tropical islands.  Alice’s Teacup Madness – I think and hope Lewis Carroll would be flattered knowing that his whimsical and nonsensical literary tale was translated into a Mac game. Alice’s Tea Cup Madness follows the original story in that Alice has fallen down a rabbit hole, but diverges immediately from there. In order for Alice to exit the wacky world of wonder, she’s to work and earn her way out of there by serving tea and pastries to quirky and oftentimes picky characters. Download it

 Pop-a-tronic – Pop-a-Tronic is an addictive bubble popping puzzle game for Mac. As bubbles fill the screen, pop them as fast as you can. Inhale bubbles and pick a new place to drop them. The bubbles are constantly approaching, so do your best to clear the board as fast as you can. There are four game modes to vary the game play: Puzzle, Marathon, Lock-Out or Self Destruct. The game might remind some gamers of Collapse but with more game modes, power ups, challenges and bonuses. Download it
