Demonstar - Reviewed by Cate Defrise

I know why this game is called, Demonstar. Demonstar is evil.

And I mean that -- in a good way, though. Demonstar is a game that will get under your skin…and twist and turn in there…then inject some Speed into you. No, no--no mind altering substances and there’s no pain involved here; rather, you’ll squirm with excitement. Not into squirming? That’s okay because Demonstar will pump up your system with an adrenaline rush you’ll really like. AND, you’ll have a blast playing what could be one of your favorite games of all time.

I’m more of a puzzle person and am not used to vertical scrolling shooters that much so once I started playing Demonstar, I found it kind of hard. The controls are easy enough to use; I suppose I needed to get familiar with the type of game play -- but I had more difficulty surviving at first. Normally when this happens, I become discouraged and feel lame then find another game. There’s so much happening on the screen in Demonstar; it tricked me a bit but I realized I had to figure this thing out or go crazy. I’m not quite ready for the neighborhood nuthouse so I rounded up all the concentration I could find in me. It took several times to get through a level and instead of feeling like I should give up, which usually happens, I felt I had to keep going and conquer Demonstar. Giving up would’ve been tragic because I would have missed out on heart pounding, game playing fun, not to mention being able to blow up a lot of stuff to smithereens. Grab bonuses and use your missiles, bullets, lasers, and smart bombs to ultimately exterminate the bad guys and obstacles in your way.

You begin Demonstar as a fighter plane being launched off into space on your mission to…well…kill! They’re the enemy and need to be eliminated so you shouldn’t feel so bad about it, ok?

Remember that Speed I was talking about? Demonstar, to me, was like a drug and I wanted more. Some people think that’s a bad thing but if you’re into games, especially Shooters (and even if you’re not) Demonstar is something you should try. Each of the 18 levels gets progressively more difficult and at the end of the level, you have to destroy a big boss. You must skillfully and conscientiously accumulate as many weapons and bonuses as possible because for the last level, you’ll need a running start to wipe out the final, big-bulky-baddie-boss, DEMONSTAR (insert scary music here).

Demonstar will keep you at the edge of your seat when you're playing -- and when you’re not playing, will beckon you to come back to the computer and play. It won’t leave you alone. You'll daydream about it when you should be working. At night, it will haunt you in your dreams. It will drive you insane. It’s challenging, addictive and yes, it’s eeeeeeeeeviiiiiiiillllllllllllllllllllllll.
